Ingredients & Substitutions for Ninja FOODi Pumpkin Soup
I’ll admit the ingredient list for this healthy pumpkin soup recipe is a bit long but it all combines to make a delicious, spicy, savory meal. Here are some suggestions for subbing out ingredients to make a soup that works for you:
Pumpkin I always use canned pumpkin for two reasons: it’s always available at the store and it takes much less time to prep for the recipe. I prefer just opening a can to cutting, seeding, and cooking a pumpkin.
If you have a fresh pumpkin and want to use it in the recipe, go for it! You may need to adjust the seasonings, especially the salt.
Spices & Seasonings I like spicy dishes so I used chipotle peppers, as well as spicy paprika to add heat. The recipe as written is spicy, so if you like less heat, use less than the amount in the recipe, or leave out the peppers and/or paprika altogether.
Heavy Cream I opted to use heavy whipping cream in this recipe because I wanted the creamy flavor that it gives. But you could substitute any milk product you like, plant-based or dairy.
I’ve also made this pumpkin soup with canned pumpkin and coconut milk and it had a sweeter flavor from the coconut.

Which pumpkin should I use for the Ninja Foodi pumpkin soup recipe?
This recipe calls for pumpkin puree, which is cooked pumpkin that is blended until smooth. I used canned pumpkin, but you are welcome to make your own pumpkin puree.
If making your own, I would recommend using a small pie pumpkin. They cook up very creamy and tend to be a little sweeter than other varieties. But feel free to experiment with other kinds.
