Ninja Foodi Slow Cooker Chili Recipe Tips

If this is your first batch of slow cooker chili in the Ninja Foodi, or if this is your first batch of chili ever, here are some helpful tips and suggestions.

Ingredients Substitutions for Slow Cooker Chili

Whether you’re lacking a few of the ingredients or just don’t like a particular one, these are suggestions on substituting out some of the items on the ingredient list.

Meat

This recipe calls for ground beef, but feel free to use another ground meat, such as ground chicken or turkey.

If you’re vegetarian, just leave out the meat altogether. You could also substitute your favorite vegetarian meat crumbles if you prefer.

Beans

I used chili beans in my Ninja Foodi chili recipe, because they are my favorite bean and I think they taste the best in chili. But you could also use kidney beans, pinto beans, or black beans, or a combination of any or all of them.

Tomatoes

I used pureed tomatoes in my slow cooker chili recipe because I like a thicker chili. But there are other options.

  • Stewed tomatoes
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Fire-roasted tomatoes
  • Whole tomatoes
  • Chopped, fresh tomatoes
  • Tomatoes with chiles, hot or mild (such as Rotel)
  • Tomato sauce

I suggest using a combination of tomatoes to get the right consistency you like, as well as the right amount of spice/heat.

How to Slow Cook Chili in the Ninja Foodi

Let’s face it, most people use their Ninja Foodi to air fry or reheat food. I know I do. Most don’t even know how to slow cook in their Ninja!

Well, it’s time to get rid of your other slow cooker and learn how to use this function on your Ninja.

How do you slow cook chili in the Ninja Foodi?

It’s easy! You just select the SLOW COOK setting. Then use the TEMP arrows to choose either HI or LO temperature. Then choose how long to cook using the up and down arrows for TIME. It changes in 15-minute increments.

However, there is one important rule to follow when slow cooking in the Ninja Foodi. Do Not exceed the MAX line on the cooking pot when using the SLOW COOK function.

This shouldn’t be a problem. I have a small 5-quart Ninja Foodi, and this recipe fits fine in the cooking pot. But if you double the recipe, be sure your cooking pot is big enough.

Which lid do I use to slow cook in the Ninja Foodi?

When using the SLOW COOK function on the Ninja Foodi, you’ll need to use the pressure cooker lid.

But be sure to move the pressure release valve to the VENT position. This allows the built-up steam to vent as your chili slowly cooks.
